Statement of Purpose:
My name is Samuel Gross. I was born in New York but I currently live in Boca Raton, Florida. I have three siblings including a twin brother. Even though I left warm weather, I am happy to be at the University of Maryland, College Park. I particularly feel fortunate to be in UMD’s Media, Self, and Society Scholars Program. I have always been fascinated by media, especially news coverage and television shows, and have always wanted to learn more about what happens behind the scenes and how to properly make these forms of media. Therefore, I decided to join the Media Scholars Program. So far, in CPMS100, we have had the privilege to hear from many guest speakers, each of whom have reflected on their experiences working in media. We have also had many class discussions which I have enjoyed including about how to present accurate information in the media in the best, and most effective, way possible. In the Media Scholars Program, I hope to continue hearing from guest speakers about their experiences working in media so I can understand what it is like to work in this profession. Additionally, I would like to learn about how to produce media content and learn journalism strategies on how to report information well. As an undecided major at the University of Maryland, I hope I will be able to find a major and career path which I am passionate about. The University of Maryland has so many different classes, resources, and opportunities, so I hope I will be able to find an area of study which interests me. Over the next few years in college, I also hope to grow as a person and gain independence and maturity. I look forward to continuing my growth and learning in both the Media Scholars Program and at the University of Maryland. Statement: 11/12/2020
