Here are just some of my assignments in CPMS100 from fall of 2020:

Covid infodemic - being a part of the solution

I chose to include my covid infodemic media assignment because of both its importance and relevance to current times. COVID-19 sadly has taken over our lives for the past few months and many media sources have reported about it, providing safety tips and general information about the virus. However, many people don't know that some of the COVID-19 content in the media includes inaccurate information about matters from the number of virus cases to how to properly prevent the virus from spreading. Therefore, I am glad I had the opportunity to provide accurate COVID-19 information by creating publishable media content. Since so many people nowadays are using social media, I believe that creating publishable media content is the best way to relay information to people. Additionally, I believe that this assignment shows personal growth. Usually, I am not so comfortable posting content on social media but this assignment gave me the opportunity to publish media content that I was comfortable posting as I know that my post is accurate, relevant, and important for the safety of others.

Gen Z Voter Challenge Activity

I chose to include my Gen Z Voter Challenge Activity for a few reasons. First of all, its message is extremely important. Gen Z is among the most diverse and educated generations in history. Therefore, their votes are important as Gen Z voters are likely well-informed about political issues and also represent the modern landscape of America, which is filled with people from different racial ethnicities and backgrounds. However, many Gen Z voters are still uninterested in voting. I included this assignment in my ePortfolio because it shows the importance and power Gen Z has and reasons why they should vote in the election.

Additionally, I chose this assignment because it allowed me to both reflect on Gen Z voters and allowed me to create accurate and creative media content to get Gen Z to the polls. I enjoyed combining my analytical skills, as I analyzed Gen Z voters, with my creative skills in order to create fun media content for Gen Z voters. Furthermore, I chose this assignment because my media content is very informative as it provides information such as: how to find accurate election media coverage, how to properly vote, and the proper method as to how to choose a political candidate. Overall, I enjoyed doing this assignment as it was educational, fun, and relevant to modern times.

Although they are the youngest generation, Gen Z can still play a crucial role in determining the outcome of this coming election. Gen Z is one of the most unique generations as they most accurately represent the current demographics of the United States. Not only has Gen Z grown up in the age of technological advancements, they are the most racially and ethnically diverse generation compared to those generations prior. Additionally, they are on the path to make history as they are set to be the most educated generation yet. Gen Z voters should participate in this election and are important for this country’s future. Firstly, since they are the most diverse generation, they represent the needs of all types of people, including those of different races, economic classes, and gender; this makes their vote important as all people should be equally represented in our election process. Furthermore, as the most educated generation so far, Gen Z has a lot of potential and knowledge to share. They will one day shape the country’s future and, therefore, Get Z should vote in this election to get them thinking and to plant the seeds for Get Z thinkers to come. However, despite the need to get Gen Z voters to the polls, many Gen Z members are uninterested or unaware of the political climate in the country. One way to get Gen Z to vote is through education. Since many Gen Z members are fortunate enough to receive an education, it is imperative to teach about democracy, political issues, and voting information in order to get Gen Z members to care about politics and get them interested in expressing their opinions by voting. Additionally, social media is a great platform to influence Gen Z to vote. Since Gen Z has grown up in the age of smartphones, Snapchat, and TikTok videos, this can be an effective avenue to get the message of the importance of voting across to them. Political campaigns, educators, and even other students should show the importance of voting in a digital manner since it’ll be so accessible to potential Gen Z voters. Hopefully, this will get Gen Z to the polls and they will leave a footprint on this year’s election.

Search Mastery Reflection

I chose to include this assignment because it represents my growth. Before learning the Search Mastery modules, I just assumed that the top search result was always the best result. Now, I understand that this isn't always the case and I know how to better filter my search results and how to find reliable and relevant information. I learned the importance of "click restraint", how to determine a website's credibility, and how to implement operators to narrow my search results. The skills I learned are valuable as they will help me for the rest of my time in college and they will even help me beyond my schooling.

The information I learned was very informative and relevant to me. Before doing the past two modules, I did not know that it is possible to filter search results and always just assumed that the top search results were the most reliable. I learned the importance of “click restraint” and to not click the first result that comes up since it may not always be the most reliable. I also learned how to differentiate between different websites regarding their credibility. I also did not know the existence of operators and that I can filter results with quotation marks, an “OR”, file type, and even by color or date of publication. I definitely believe that the skills I learned are valuable and that I will use them in college and in life. I will likely write many research papers over the next four years. The information I learned from the modules will help me find reliable scholarly articles and taught me to use “click restraint” and be sure the sources I find are good to use. I can also filter out irrelevant information that don’t pertain to my research topic using operators. The information I learned from the modules will also help me in life. For example, sometimes, I remember one line from a song but can’t remember the rest of the words. I now know I can use an operator, by putting the words I know in quotation marks, and can filter out results that are irrelevant to the song I am looking for and can find the rest of the lyrics of the song.
